Make your bed! You've probably heard that before. ...But have you ever heard of your bed making you, or your bed making the room? Your bed is the easiest, most eye-catching way to create a big statement in your bedroom. Not just in the bedding and pillows that you dress it with, but also the bed itself. The frame, the headboard, the footboard. My bed is cozily tucked into a nook, so I don't have any of those things. Yet once in a while I remember fondly the beds I've had: a vintage French provincial four-poster, a black wrought iron headboard, the time that I painted that black wrought iron headboard pink, then red. I've rounded up some of my favoritestatement-making beds.
Metal beds are my favorite. I love a good antique wrought iron headboard and footboard. Luckily, with vintage style being constantly on the rise... you don't have to go scavenging through antique stores to find the perfect bed. Metal beds are available for purchase in store and online. I especially love iron beds when painted a bright color like mint green, mustard yellow, or apple red.
While vintage and vintage-inspired metal beds get me every time, I'm finding myself to possess and increasingly soft spot for sleek, modern poster beds. Draped with sheer fabric or left to stand bare, the clean lines and beautiful silhouettes of these beds is striking, contemporary, and understated.
Even though the same shape may prevail with these beds, there are interested options available, too. The blonde wood one above feels more like a nook with its foot-end being open as it is. A classic black or stark white is always a room-pleaser. And you don't always have to drape fabric from the rails. In the bottom right photo, lanterns hang from some of a traditional poster bed's rails.
A vintage-inspired canopy bed like the one at top left is one of my all-time favorites, especially left undressed. At top right, extra metal adds whimsy to a basic iron poster bed. I love the uniqueness of an antique, curved canopy bed, too. And I'm absolutely swooning over the lower right bed: black branches and leaves... how lovely!
Upholstered beds come in many varieties, shapes, and styles. I love the bold, cheery light turquoise upholstered bed... especially with yellow pillows. The gray, slightly curved upholstered headboard and footboard is graceful, neutral, and just enough masculine to compliment any room. Unsure? Go with a tall, classic headboard upholstered in a neutral hue and let your furniture and artwork do the talking while the bed makes an understated statement like in the room at bottom left. Love drama? Go for it with a tufted headboard upholstered in a rich hue and just-as-rich fabric: purple and velvet, anyone?
Okay, so now I want to know. What is your favorite type of bed? And why?! :)
A vintage-inspired metal bed? A bed upholstered in a cool color like deep teal? Or maybe the classic, elegant sleigh bed? There are a variety of beds that make a statement for your room; the only problem? Choosing just one!
